Catalytic Course

Converting what you know into an online course is, probably, the best way to monetize your knowledge. However, most trainers do not understand that unless you turn your learner into a raving fan, no matter how good your content is, it might as well not exist. So, from a curriculum development and leads generation standpoint, creating a Catalytic Course is crucial.

Catalytic: Involving the action of a catalyst. The better you are able to get your learner results, the better your odds of getting them to becoming raving fans and willing prospects eager to do business with you.

The real purpose why you teach

Here are some interesting observations.

Many trainers thought they could simply convert what they know into online course and profit from it. Most trainers have no proper framework to guide them in designing their courses.

Remember, every great online course has one purpose - to help your learners get results.​

And then to get your learners to want more, and so on, all the way until they can't wait to tell others about you and are eager to do business with you.

So what exactly is a Catalytic Course?

Who's teaching this?

Hi! My name is Melvyn Tan.

I started a consulting firm called LINE Consulting in 2002 helping small businesses formulate their business plans.

However, in 2004, we decided to pivot and work with schools.

One year later, we almost went out of business.​

Because if you did not have a track record working with schools, no schools would want to work with you. On top of that, we were competing with 3 other consulting firms that had worked with schools for some time.

While we had four schools as clients, it simply wasn't enough to sustain us.

We knew we had to innovate and fast. Unfortunately, many of our projects didn't worked.

When we finally got one innovation to work, it worked so well, which gave us the opportunity to share with you now.

The one innovation that worked, LINEAR Program, led to a 350% increase in clients (or 18 schools) within 6 months.

Soon, we started to edge out our competitors.

And our next biggest break came from us being appointed by Ministry of Education (MOE) to design, develop, and deliver a 3-Day Course for newly appointed School Staff Developers (SSD).

Little did we know this was the start of the creation of a "Catalytic Course".

From this 3-Day Catalytic Course:

🤝 we established great relationships with the community of SSD,
📈 we built trust by helping them get results,
💼 we showed them what it's like to work with us.

With that, we built a community of SSDs who became our raving fans and are eager to work with us.

We were re-appointed by MOE in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, [sabbatical 2016-2017], 2018, 2019, and 2020.

From 2010 onwards, more than 60% of all new businesses were through referrals via this community of SSD.

The remaining 40% are repeat clients.

In 2018, we decided to apply the same approach on LinkedIn.

We made 184 mini Catalytic Courses teaching professionals how to use videos to get noticed on LinkedIn.

Our 184 videos garnered some 400,000 views within the year.

This led us to establish Befinity Media.

From these 184 mini Catalytic Courses:
