How I Got Started
I started my own consulting practice out of circumstance. The dot.com I joined tanked. Despite all our efforts to stay afloat, we couldn’t even make payroll. The next best option was to part ways. That’s exactly what I did.
The next few months were tough.
No contacts. No track records. Nothing.
Just armed with knowledge, a lot of hard work, and a good attitude. With these critical elements, it gave me an advantage. But it wasn’t until I did this that my business started to grow.
What Roles Do You Play, Professionally
If you are a business owner or a freelancer, then this area of your life, professional, is important.
It is important because it is the engine that keeps the lights on and put food on the table.
It is important because it is the vehicle you use to make your contribution to the world.
It is important because, at the end of the day, it could be how you are remembered.
If you are an employee or someone who is in-between jobs and looking to join the world of entrepreneurship or self-employment, then this is even more critical.
Action: Write down the roles in your professional life.
If you are a freelancer, these roles could be: book-keeper, marketer, consultant, administrator.
If you are a business owner, your roles could be: strategist, business development, engineer.
Remember, many of us as small business owners play numerous roles in our business. So it is likely that you’d have more than one role.
If anything, here’s the main reason why you must write down these roles: scale.
If you are looking to join the world of entrepreneurship or self-employment and you’re procrastinating on this exercise, then maybe this entrepreneurship thing might not be for you.
